The aroma of cigars mingled with the sweet perfume wafting from elegantly dressed patrons as the clock struck 9 PM. The entrance to Le Rêve Noir, the most fashionable café in the bustling city, swung open with its vintage brass handle.  At the heart of the café was the band—fronted by Sadie St. Claire, a sultry singer with scarlet lips and a voice that could stop time. She leaned against the microphone stand, her sequined dress shimmering like stars under the stage lights. The pianist, Charlie, a young man, danced his fingers across the ivory keys, pouring his soul into every note. The rhythm of the stand-up bass and the crackle of the snare drum collided in perfect, hypnotic harmony. She looked for him.

The crowd listened intently as Sadie sang:

"All that is forbidden tastes so divine,
Pour me that liquor, and I’ll call it mine."
